News: Defiant library board votes to save Urban Affairs branch

From the Toronto Star

I’d been keeping an eye on this story, and I’m thrilled to see how hard the board is fighting to save the branch. It’s disappointing to see that they’ve had to acquiesce and accept a lower budget, but I can certainly appreciate why they made the choice that they did. Councillor and library board member Janet Davis is quoted in the article as saying  “We must act in the best interests of our patrons … (and) closing a library would not be doing that”. There are always ways to work with less money  – although it may be exceptionally difficult – but working to serve a community when you don’t have a branch from which to serve them is a lot more challenging.
